Meditation and Pain – Do I Really Have to Meditate?
"It’s a fact of life: No one can do everything we know we should do for optimal health and well being. Our parents try to teach us about moderation, a positive attitude, nutrition, exercise and hard work. When I became a parent, I tried to do the same. When they were small, my kids thought one M&M was a great dessert. They played outside every day with neighborhood children and were limited to one hour of TV per day on school days. I cut up carrots and fruit for snack time, and we ate dinner together as a family. Now my kids are teenagers. Both are determined to get into a good college, and feel a lot of pressure with homework, preparing for standardized tests, group projects, etc. I still try to keep healthy food in the fridge, but sugary snacks do seem to give them an energy pop that they look for after a long school day. They don’t have time for much fresh air or outdoor activity, except what they get at school. Unless my husband can make it home before they pass out from hunger, I feed them early and they eat in their rooms so they can take a “video break,” check in on Facebook, or skype their friends before they hit the books again..."
